Following up to our story on Monday about how Buckingham Palace is struggling to explain the confusion over the Duchess of Cambridge's status after William listed her occupation as "Princess of the United Kingdom" on Prince George’s birth certificate (http://tinyurl.com/phydj3q), we started to wonder...how was Diana's job listed on William's birth certificate?
We looked it up and it turns out, in 1982, the year William was born, birth certificates did not require parents to list the mother's occupation. However, Charles did list his occupation as "Prince of the United Kingdom." Unlike George's birth certificate that lists Kate's full name (Catherine Elizabeth), Diana's first and middle names were not required on William's birth certificate. She is simply referred to as "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales."
Both birth certificates show William and George's names begin with "His Royal Highness" and both were signed by the father. Here is a side-by-side comparison:
